Project: Project on SWM in Phnom Penh (PURSUE C2C)
• Institutional strengthening and capacity-building of participating cities and local authorities on school-community engagements and cooperation in the field of solid waste reduction and 3Rs in Phnom Penh using the experiences of San Fernando and Makati;
• Effective use of C2C cooperation as a significant tool for sustainable urban development by providing continuous and professional learning between resource and beneficiary cities;
• Exchanges between Phnom Penh, Makati, and San Fernando on building and strengthening community participation in solid waste management focusing on recyclable wastes diversion; and
• Potential of Phnom Penh to implement decentralised and self-reliant 3R activities, especially on composting system through the construction of the composting plants that will benefit all the stakeholders involved.
A Technical Advisory Services (TAS) study visit has been conducted on May 18-22, 2009 where SWM experts from Makati and San Fernando visited Phnom Penh to observe Phnom Penh's current environmental situation and to share sound practices on solid waste reduction.
The TAS has paved the way for Phnom Penh to gain new strategies on promoting solid waste reduction at the community level.
Phnom Penh to come up with demonstration projects on solid waste reduction taking into consideration on the evaluation and recommendations from the SWM experts
