Introduction
Taichung is situated at the geographic center of Taiwan. Over the course of 300 years, the city has continued to develop astride a comprehensive transportation network. Today, highways, the high-speed rail, railroad, express buses and a Taichung metropolitan expressway system all combine to form a convenient, reliable commuter system, with Taichung Port and CCK International Airport also located nearby.
Taichung City, ranking third in population, second in land area and first in livability among Taiwan’s major metropolitan areas, is the hub for consumer activities for six million people in the greater Taichung metropolitan area. Its shopping districts, combining rich gourmet dining, culture and creativity, each exude a distinctly attractive flavor.
In the near future, an open-air amphitheater, the National Opera House and a world-class art museum will together form an international cultural zone for Taichung. At the same time, high-tech companies clustered in Central Taiwan Science Park will continue to generate high value, profitability and movement toward a knowledge-based economy. Trade and commercial activities will also be boosted by the development of an international convention and exhibition center.
Becoming a cultured, prosperous metropolis is not a dream, but a reality for TaichungCity Data (2009)
