  • Introduction

SDS was established in 1984 as a not-for-profit research & training organisation. Local work areas are policy research, capacity building programs, providing advisory services and technical assistance in areas that are central to the growth of local, national and regional economies, but are often under-stressed or overlooked in the planning processes, especially the interests of marginalised groups.
Over the last 20 years, SDS has emerged as a Global Centre of Excellence and has received 4 UN Awards for Excellence/Best Practices. SDS works across over 25 countries in areas of Human Settlements, Urban & Rural Development, Poverty reduction, Empowerment, Informal Economy & Knowledge Infrastructure.
