- CITYNET can provide many opportunities for LCP member cities in the areas of capacity building
and networking. The LCP is further committed to strengthen its mutual cooperation among local
governments around the world through CITYNET. In fact, many LCP member-cities are also CITYNET
members. LCP’s principals- which are the local chief executives – are encouraging LCP as a group to
formally join in the organization.
LCP believes that CITYNET can also provide venues for knowledge exchanges of urban governance
practices. Moreover, CITYNET can provide an enabling mechanism support for many of LCP’s
advocacies both at the national and international arena. As the mandated organization of the Philippine
Cities, LCP relies on the collective experience and mutual cooperation among its stakeholders which
include members of the local government bureaucracy and its private and civil society partners. As
urbanization becomes the natural development phenomenon, mutual technical cooperation and facilitative knowledge transfer among local governments are ever needed and CITYNET can provide such
opportunities. LCP is also an institutional resource of good urban governance which other local
governments from around the world can emulate and CITYNET can also help facilitate it.
Through CITYNET, LCP hopes to organize:
1. Training and Capacity Building Programs i.e. on Human Settlements, Urban Governance and
Millennium Development Goals, Local Economic Development, Urban Financing, Clean Development
Mechanism, Decentralization, Solid Waste Management, and Disaster Risk Reduction;
2. Strengthening Capacities of Local Government Associations and their Secretariat i.e. Policy
Development, Knowledge Management, Program Management, Knowledge Tools Development;
3. Advocacy and Networking Events
