Introduction
Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, covers an area of approximately 650 square kilometer. It is inhabited by ten million people with an annual population growth of 2%. Like other big cities in the world, Jakarta faces various urban challenges such as, globalization, new endemic diseases, energy and food shortages, environment degradation, global warming and climate change are now emerging, and the existing problems such as urban poverty, urban sprawl, scarcity of land, lack of competency, ineffective and inefficient public services.
