  • Introduction

Association of Indonesia Municipalities (AIM) or Asosiasi Pemerintah seluruh Indonesia (APEKSI) is a non-profit and an independent organisation. AIM was working on a wide-ranging new agenda promoted by the on-going process of democratisation and the reconstruction of the Indonesian society. The decentralisation of authorities and the autonomous status granted to regions and municipalities in Indonesia have ushered in ample allowances for each region and municipalities to enhance its own development priorities. The AIM agenda includes among others providing counsels and assistance to its 91 members (the municipal mayors) throughout Indonesia in their social, cultural, educational, environmental and health undertakings that they individually may not be able to accomplish due to their limited resources. AIM will encourage and coordinate mutually beneficial cooperation among them and between them with any potential partners from among associations of municipalities or other relevant organisations abroad.
