Why Should You Become a CITYNET Member?

CITYNET Membership

CITYNET is a unique member-driven organisation which has grown from 26 members at its inception in 1987 to over 100 members in over 20 countries in Asia-Pacific and Europe and continues to expand year by year.

Today, the comprehensive CITYNET network includes city governments, national level organisations, development authorities, non-governmental organisations, private companies and community-based organisations.The Network is funded by the annual membership fee. Programmes, projects and activities are funded through the Network's partnerships with donor agencies.
CITYNET strives to meet the changing needs of members and most importantly to listen to its members to successfully and continually implement relevant programmes and activities.

Eligibility Criteria
Any city government, authority, development authority, association of local authorities, non-governmental organisation, community-based organisation, institution or agency, individual, corporation, that shares the objectives and vision of CITYNET may apply for membership.

Membership is divided into five categories: Full, Associate, Corporate, Individual, and Honorary.

Application Process

  • Step 1

    Please review the eligibility requirements.

  • Step 2

    Request an application form (see below)

  • Step 3

    Upon pre-approval the CITYNET Secretariat will send the application form and required documents.

  • Step 4

    Please submit the application form, together with the city/organisation profile and all other relevant information materials to the CITYNET Secretariat at least two months before the annual session of the Executive Committee Meeting, held in the last quarter of every year.

  • Step 5

    Completed applications will be tabled at the CITYNET Executive Committee Meeting.

  • Step 6

    Membership will become effective upon adoption at the Executive Committee Meeting and signing of the Charter of CITYNET.

  • Step 7

    CITYNET services will be available after the first payment of the membership fee/subscription.



How to Calculate the Membership Fee

Upon approval by the CITYNET Executive Committee, the membership fee will be incurred from the following year. The annual membership fee is calculated based on the population size of the city and GDP per capita of its country.

Example

If a city's population is approximately 1,600,000, and GDP/capita of its country is US$ 1,355, the annual membership fee would be US$2,500. Please note the fee calculation may be subject to revsion.

Criteria: Full Member

  • cities located in Asia and the Pacific region
  • population of at least 100,000 included within its borders, (cities with less than 100,000 population in developed countries are acceptable)
  • Have the ability to actively contribute to the Network

A city can be deeply engaged in international cooperation as an active and responsible member of the international community. A city can also participate in addressing global issues as a member of an international organisation, such as CITYNET, to constantly seek concrete solutions to the common challenges including transportation, the environment and welfare. Through firm networking and cooperation, Asian cities are willing to continue efforts to take their global cities to the next level.
