Mayor of Makati: letter of appeal to CITYNET Members to support Japan in time of crises
The Honorable Jejomar Erwin S. Binay, Mayor of the City Government of Makati, Second Vice-President City and Chair of CITYNET'sDisaster Cluster has written a letter of appeal to CITYNET members to support the victims of the March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami.
The following is the text of the letter:
Dear CITYNET Members,
We are all deeply saddened by the horrific devastation Japan has suffered in the aftermath of a strong earthquake and tsunami.
Authorities estimate that over 18,000 people were killed, while thousands more are still missing, and the World Bank says it may cost Japan around 145 billion pounds for the rehabilitation of the affected areas. It is worth noting that without the country's high level of disaster preparedness and management plans, these numbers could have been more.
As you know, Japan has been the host country of CITYNET since its establishment in 1987. For over two decades, the country has been very supportive of the Network's activities and programs. Now, it is Japan and its people who need our support and help.
In this regard, CITYNET is appealing to its members to extend their utmost support and cooperation to help the people of Japan. Any means of help would be highly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely yours,
Jejomar Erwin S. Binay, JR.
