UNCRD 39th International Training Course in Regional Development - Human Security and Poverty - CANCELLED

Note: Due to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Northeastern Japan, the training course has been cancelled until further notice.

Thirty-Ninth International Training Course in Regional Development (ITC 39), to be held in May-June 2011, will examine regional development for Human Security and Poverty Reduction in the Context of Sustainable Development, highlighting rural areas in particular. The three-week course will deliver the expected outcomes through a compact programme replete with lectures, cases for study and discussion, as well as field study visits to provide insights into Japan's regional development experience.

Participant Eligibility: Mid-level officials from central and local governments (provincial, district, state, and municipal authorities), public autonomous bodies (local and regional development boards
and authorities), and NGOs in developing countries that wish to explore alternative approaches to regional development for Human Security and Poverty Reduction, with a focus on rural areas.
Please note: This training is available for representatives from ODA recipient countries only. Japanese central/local government representatives are eligible as associate participants.
For more information on Japan's ODA, please see their website: Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Japan's ODA

UNCRD will support twelve successful candidates with entitlements of the “United Nations Study Tour” (see section on “Funding”); there will be three additional places for those who are able to obtain
funding from other agencies. In addition, the Centre welcomes Japanese central and local governments to send their staff members as “associate participants.”
