"Harmonious Cities for Our Future" is the theme of the CITYNET Yokohama Congress 2009 as we seek growth in harmonious ways with inclusion, sustainability and governance.
In Japanese, harmony has a beautiful meaning with vertical and horizontal connotations – harmony within the environment (physical and non-physical), harmony within society that respects cultural differences, harmony in wealth that is equal and disregards gender sexuality and harmony in regional expansion.
The Sixth CITYNET Congress will be held in Yokohama, Japan on 7 - 11 September 2009 as a parallel event to the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Opening of the Port of Yokohama. Highlights of activities include the CITYNET member meetings of two Sessions of the Executive Committee and the General Council, as well as public fora, mayors' forum, roundtable and networking sessions, Cluster sessions, partner exchanges, and a poster session.
We look forward to sharing diverse perspectives on the possibilities and future prospects for the creation of harmonious cities.
Participants from local governments, NGOs/CBOs, national governments, UN agencies, academe, and the private sector are all welcome.
